Not bad looking phone at all...and cheap, altho not that cheap in here, probably double price PLUS i think it's only available from SONERA... :(

The iPhone 3G will cost less than $199 in almost all the countries its being initially released in (source: Steve Jobs' keynote speech). It will also most likely be operator locked, so you have to make a 2 year deal with Sonera and pay "the rest" of the price monthly. 200 bucks is dirt cheap, so Apple has to make a profit somehow.

Personally Im hoping it would be available without the deal, so I can buy an operator locked phone for less than 200€, jailbreak it and have a very nice PDA/media player/phone basically free and use my own, existing SIM.

Super Monkey Ball, Spore...iPhone gaming sure looks promising. But how much would you pay for a game that, fancy graphics or not, you're playing on your phone? $5? $15? Hahaha. Not even close. No, according to Spanish mobile studio LemonQuest - who are currently working on an iPhone game - Apple are planning on charging $25 for an iPhone game. That's a spicy meatball. Too spicy? Not if iPhone games can be the equivalent of at least a DS game. And if they can manage that, well...that's a bargain!

UPDATE - While LemonQuest seem adamant that games will run at around $25, Apple's own dev page clearly states that developers set their own prices, so long as 30% of the cut goes to Apple.

I don't think 25€ for a game (or any software) you like is that bad. Altho, Im really not planning to get an iPhone to play games on. Maybe watch a movie on longer trips, but mainly its for phone calls, "emergency" surfing, music and gps.

And porn, of course.

3G iPhone voi maksaa yli tuhat euroa vuodessa(sorry it's in finnish)

Sonera could do the same thing here in FInland. Luckily it seems that iPhone might not be exclusive to Sonera (or then it might), so that some other operator could pick it up as well.

Definitely on my must buy-list BUT there are few things that may turn out to be show stoppers:

1) Can you buy it directly without a binging contract to Sonera? Not going to pay 3G monthly fees
for strict wlan usage. At least Elisa sells their eee pcs also without 3g-deal.

2) Word on the blogs is that you might have to sign a contract that explicitly forbids all kinds
of modifying, 'jailbreaking', meaning that you will never run your own software freely in it.
Of f#ck it, it is your civic duty to take full control of devices that you own. If you don't control
the device, it works against you.

If those two fears don't come true, giveGivegive! =)

Still bothers me that Apple's so called open sdk is quite a joke. I don't see that it is 'OK' that
if I want to give an application that I coded to my friend, I have to send it to Apple for signing
and pay extra for it. It's just wrong. My device, my code, my app.

Actually, it's yours only after contract ends. Before that it's still leasing companys property.

EDIT: Okay, I read again. You are looking to buy one, not contract one..

This is Finland, not USA. If you buy a phone, you can do pretty much whatever you like with it, no matter what some contract says as long as its not forbidden by the law.

If you're only going to use it on wlan, why not get an iPod touch? Its the same device, just without a phone.

If you get a phone with a contract, you do not buy it. You lease it. A leased phone is not your property an you cannot do with it what you want. Once leasing ends it might end up as your property or as property of leasing company.

I could add here also, that if you have signed a contract basic principle is, that you have to obey that contract. If you feel it is unfair and restrictng, you can sue to get the contract cancelled but you cannot just do so on your own decision. This includes for example buying something with specific lisence that you sign. If contract says you cannot resell or donate that item, you cannot do so unless you get that contract nullified.

Boogie: You're definitely correct with the leasing part.
AFAIK, if you buy a phone, tv, some software product or whatnot, you are not making a contract.
If manufacturer has inserted a paper slip inside the shrink wrap, it really is not enough to strip
your rights.

If, on the other hand, they make you sign a paper.. That might be another issue.
This includes for example buying something with specific lisence that you sign.
Exactly. I think i even saw an article about AutoCAD losing in court big time to someone who bought
autocad-licenses from company that was going bankrupt and reselling them. Autocad license agreement
(the paper slip in package, or 'click here to accept EULA and install'), was not considered a contract.
If you're only going to use it on wlan, why not get an iPod touch? Its the same device, just without a phone.
I was bit unclear. I'd love to use it as a phone with my 0.66e/month phone contract but not going to use
the 19e/month 3G data. (yeah, can you imagine? i have to pay my own phone bills. =P)

True. I was talking about buying, not leasing something.

Intresting to see what kind of deals Sonera will offer. I will probably have to make a contract, cancel it right away and pay the early termination fee.

edit: http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/12/unsu ... in-europe/ .. apparently its being sold at least in some countries without any contract and unlocked.

Maksaa sitten vaikka pelkästään Minun Soneran kk-maksut eli 2€/kk.

Hassua, että Minun Sonera-tapauksessakin olet sidottuna Soneraan sen 24kk vaikka puhelimesta maksetaankin täysi(?) hinta hankinna yhteydessä.

No lolol.. Työkaveri toi ameriikan reissulta iPod Touchin 8GB, 210e. Mun olemassaolevan
